Red Sox Come From Seven Runs Down To Beat Rays

The Boston Red Sox pulled off an amazing and improbable come from behind victory to beat the Tampa Bay Rays 8-7 last night.  Down 7-0 in Game 5 of the ALCS to the Tampa Bay Rays, the Red Sox had seven outs left in their 2008 season while the Rays were seven outs away from their 1st World Series.  The Red Sox, comeback kings of the 21st century were able to ignite the largest postseason comeback in 79 years to force a Game Six Saturday night in Tampa.

Red Sox, Phillies Take MLB Championship Series Leads

The Red Sox took a 1-0 lead in the 2008 ALCS over the Tampa Bay Rays with a 2-0 victory Friday.

Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched 6 no-hit shutout innings for the Red Sox who had a 1-8 record during
the regular season at Tropicana Field in St. Pete, Florida.

Game Two in the ALCS is scheduled for Saturday night at Tropicana field while Games 3 will be held at Fenway Park. The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Los Angeles Dodgers and Manny and now have a 2-0 lead in the NLCS over the Dodgers. Their series resumes Sunday night at Dodgers Stadium.

Angels Beat Red Sox 5-4; Force ALDS Game 4

Josh Beckett started Game 3 of the ALDS at Fenway Park versus the LA Angels looking to propel the Sox to the ALCS. The Angels grabbed a quick 1-0 lead.  The Sox loaded the bases in the second inning and with two out scored three runs on a bloop pop-up single to center field by Ellsbury.  The ball dropped in center field between Tori Hunter and Kendrick.  It was the first three rbi single in postseason baseball history.  The Angels tied the game 3-3 in the third on a two run shot by Napoli.  The first Angels homer in the post season in 69 innings.  The Angels loaded the bases with two out in the fourth but were unable to score.  Napoli hit his second home run of the game in the fifth to give the Angels a 4-3 lead.  Youkilis drove in Ellsbury in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score 4-4.  The game stayed tied and went into extra innings.  The Red Sox loaded the bases in the 10th inning but failed to score.  The Angels scored in the top of the 12th to break  the 11 game postseason winning streak the Red Sox had over the Angels.  Game 4 will be played Monday.  At 5 hours and 19 minutes, this was the longest game in ALDS history.

Red Sox Take 2-0 Lead Over Angels in 2008 ALDS

The Boston Red Sox racked up another postseason victory against the Anaheim Angels to make it eleven straight playoff wins over the team.  Another home rune by Jason Bay lead the Sox to an early lead the a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning by J.D. Drew broke a 5-5 tie.   The Sox went on to a 7-5 win and a 2-0 lead in the American League Divisional Series over the Angels.  The series moves to Fenway Park Sunday for Game 3 Red Sox starter Josh Beckett and a possible three game sweep over the team with the best record in MLB’s 2008 regular season.  The 2008 Boston Red Sox are proving to be just as exciting as previous versions.

Boston Red Sox Clinch Playoff Spot; Fifth Postseason Berth in Six Years

The Boston Red Sox clinched a playoff berth tonight at Fenway Park with a win over the Cleveland Indians.    

It is the fifth time in six years that the Red Sox have reached the MLB postseason. 

The Red Sox clinched the playoff spot at Fenway Park beating the Indians’ Cliff Lee, one of the hottest pitchers in baseball.    

If the Tampa Bay Rays win the AL East Division, the Red Sox will battle the Los Angeles Dodgers of Anaheim in the American League Divisional Playoffs as the Wild Card team.
